My painting on the cover of Tania Branigan’s new book, published by the Italian house Iperborea

On September 10, the Italian publishing house Iperborea releases Tania Branigan’s book “Memoria rossa. La Cina dopo la Rivoluzione culturale” (“Red Memory. China after the Cultural Revolution”).

The cover features my painting “She, You, Me”, and the resonance with the book’s content is striking: stories of memory, trauma, and human vulnerability unexpectedly echo the images I embodied in this work.

The book gathers the testimonies of those who lived through the Cultural Revolution — people who found themselves both victims and participants. The Guardian journalist Tania Branigan has created a reportage of great power and literary value.
