The painting «Empathy» reached the final
of the 9th Shibuya Art Awards international competition
The painting «Empathy» (116×116 cm, acrylic, natural pigment on canvas, 2023) reached the final of the 9th Shibuya Art Awards international competition, received a judge’s nomination, and was exhibited at the award-winning work exhibition in Hillside Terrace, Shibuya, Tokyo.
The theme of this event was «Shikaku — Invisible Line.» I elaborated on this topic as follows: Winston Churchill once said, “We build our buildings, and then our buildings build us.” Beyond the cityscape, amid traffic and people, seeing a clear horizon is challenging. People lose connection with the world, consumed by their needs. The pursuit of desires proves elusive— one wish replaces another, like chasing a rainbow: the closer you get, the farther it appears. In this race, relationships and emotions fade. Restoring invisible connections with people helps find solid ground and discover one’s horizon. The earth and sky remain beneath your feet, both near and far. There’s a horizon, just from a different view.
